Phase one ecological surveys and detailed ornithological survey work was undertaken on the sensitive site of The Turner Contemporary, an award winning gallery. This included winter surveys to assess the use by roosting waders of sites near the harbour and to determine any potential impacts on these birds within the SPA.

This work included liaison with Kent County Council and Natural England, and led to recommendations for appropriate mitigation to be implemented during construction works.

Monitoring of the roosting waders has since been undertaken to assess the impact of the works and the effectiveness of the mitigation provided.
