Richard is an Associate of Lloyd Bore. He is a chartered environmental professional with 25 years’ experience in ecology, biodiversity and environmental management across both the public and private sectors. Richard has been Head of Ecology and Technical Director for several major environmental consultancies, working throughout the UK. He also worked in wildlife conservation for many years, as a Biodiversity Technical Specialist for the Environment Agency.
Richard has a wide breadth of expertise in ecology, applying this knowledge to support the production of Ecological Impact Assessments (EcIA), Habitats Regulations Assessments (HRA), mitigation strategies, species licence applications, biodiversity management plans and guidance documents. His skills cover the full lifecycle of project delivery from initial scoping surveys, through to detailed survey and mitigation planning to inform detailed design, consenting and implementation. Richard has acted as an expert ecology witness to several public inquires related to major infrastructure developments.
He has good experience in screening, assessment and compensation for impacts to designated sites including SSSIs, SPAs, SACs and Ramsar sites. He also has expertise in protected species survey and mitigation and has held related licences for great crested newts, dormice, badgers, water voles and otters. Richard co-authored national guidance on water voles, has published guidance on badger survey and has delivered mammal tracking courses for CIEEM and other organisations.
